Who Advance Lifts Is, and Why We Carry Them

Advance Lifts, Inc. of St. Charles, Illinois has built industrial lift equipment since 1974. Sales, design and manufacturing all sit under one roof in a 120,000 square foot building. The company's design approach is that a lift built to last longer costs less over its life, and it describes itself as the leading dock lift manufacturer in the country, with warranties it calls the longest in their respective product groups.

They are ISO 9001:2015 certified and run their own UL-listed electrical panel shop, so the controller on your lift is built and tested under the same roof as the structure. Advance Lifts equipment reaches most end users through a nationwide network of distributors, which is where B&C comes in.

We handle the application work: sizing the lift to your load, your pit, your truck mix and your cycle rate, then quoting it, getting it to your dock and supporting it after the install. Advance Lifts builds a wide standard range across nine product lines. A big part of any lift quote is knowing which one is right for the job, and that is the part we do.

What Actually Sets Advance Lifts Apart

Every lift manufacturer claims durability. These are four specific engineering decisions Advance Lifts makes that show up in the field, taken from their own published specifications.

Dock Lifts

Corner-mounted cylinders on the 4000 Series

On the 4000 Series recessed dock lift the cylinders mount directly to the platform corners instead of inside the leg set, to eliminate platform deflection while a load transfers on or off. If your dock lift sees fork truck traffic, heavy loads at full height or sensitive loads, this is the specification that matters most.

Scissor Lift Tables

Patented platform centering devices

Scissor tables usually wear out at the leg pivots, because side loading and off-center pallets slowly rack the assembly. Advance Lifts’ patented platform centering devices keep the platform square under uneven loads, and the company states they double or triple lift life. Standard P Series tables carry a 10-year, 250,000-cycle structural warranty.

Controls

An in-house UL-listed panel shop

Advance Lifts assembles its controllers in its own UL-listed panel shop rather than sourcing them. That shortens the path when a controller needs replacing or a panel needs a non-standard configuration, and it means the electrical side was engineered alongside the hydraulics instead of bolted on afterward.

Cycle Life

High-cycle and ultra-high-cycle tables

Most scissor tables are sized on capacity. If your table cycles on every part rather than every pallet, cycle rating is the number to shop on. The HC Series carries a 10-year, 1,000,000-cycle warranty and the UHC Series 10 years and 3,000,000 cycles. On a high-throughput line that difference is measured in years of uptime.

Find Your Advance Lifts Product

The Advance Lifts lineup in one place: 57 series across nine product lines. Every product has a Get Info & Pricing button that carries what you clicked straight into the form at the bottom, so you do not need the model number. Capacities and travel are as published by Advance Lifts; most units can be configured beyond these standard ranges.

Dock Lifts

An Advance Lifts dock lift bridges the gap between the ground and a truck bed when a building has no loading dock, or when the trucks that show up do not match the dock you have. Recessed models sit flush with the floor; top-of-ground models need no pit at all.

Scissor Lift Tables

An Advance Lifts hydraulic scissor lift table brings the work to the operator instead of the operator to the work. It removes the bending, reaching and overhead lifting that produces back injuries on a line, and keeps pallets, dies and work in process at a fixed height. This is the deepest part of the Advance Lifts catalog.

Palletizers & Pallet Positioners

Two different machines that both keep a pallet at a workable height. A self-leveling palletizer (spring or pneumatic) sinks and rises on its own as boxes are added or removed, so the top of the stack stays put and nobody bends to the bottom layer. A powered pallet positioner is driven to an exact height by the operator, which is what you want when the position has to be repeatable rather than automatic.

Industrial Turntables

An industrial turntable spins the load in place so a worker can reach all four sides of a pallet without walking around it or reaching across it. On a palletizing, wrapping, welding or assembly station it cuts the twisting that causes shoulder and lower back complaints.

Container Dumpers

A container dumper grips a bin, gaylord or hopper, lifts it, and rotates it to pour the contents out at a set height. It replaces hand-scooping and manual bin tipping, which is where many back and shoulder injuries in scrap, recycling and food handling come from.

Mezzanine Access Lifts & VRCs

Getting pallets up to a mezzanine is the problem that quietly limits how much of your mezzanine you actually use. A vertical reciprocating conveyor (VRC) or multi-stage scissor lift moves material between levels for a fraction of what a code-rated freight elevator costs.

Work Access Platform Lifts

A work access lift raises a technician and their tools to reach the top of a tall machine, vehicle or assembly, on a stable guardrailed platform sized to that job. These are engineered to the application rather than picked from a catalog, and some models can run on tracks along an assembly line.

Electric Work Station Lifts

Compact electric lifts that plug into a standard 115V single-phase outlet. They fit where a full hydraulic lift table is more machine than the job needs, and installation is lagging them down and plugging them in.

Dock Lift vs. Dock Leveler vs. VRC: Which One Do You Need?

These three get confused constantly, and specifying the wrong one is expensive to undo. The difference comes down to how far the load has to travel vertically and whether you have a dock at all.

Comparison of a dock leveler, a dock lift and a vertical reciprocating conveyor Three side-by-side diagrams. Left: a dock leveler bridges a short gap between an existing raised dock and a trailer bed. Center: a dock lift travels the full height from ground level up to trailer bed height at a building with no dock. Right: a vertical reciprocating conveyor carries loads between a ground floor and an elevated mezzanine. Dock Leveler Bridges inches. Dock needed. Dock Lift to 58 in. Ground to truck bed. No dock. Air springs on AT Series tables carry a lifetime warranty. Ask us to confirm terms on HDDP and HRDP dumpers, work access platforms and electric work station lifts before you order. Warranty is voided by overloading, abuse, or field modification without Advance Lifts’ approval, and transport damage must be reported to the carrier on receipt. Warranty work needs prior authorization: call us first and we will open the claim.

Where These Lifts Go to Work

What We Need From You to Quote an Advance Lifts Unit

Lift equipment is not a catalog purchase. Two facilities can need the same capacity and end up with completely different machines because of pit depth, duty cycle or washdown. Here is the short list that lets us give you a real number instead of a range.

What we askWhy it changes the machine
CapacityHeaviest load, plus the fork truck if it drives onto the platform
Vertical travelLowered height to raised height. Often the real constraint, not capacity
Platform sizeLoad footprint plus working clearance
How it loadsRolling, sliding or edge loading, and any platform attachments
Cycle rateLifts per hour and shifts per day. This is what decides standard vs. high-cycle
EnvironmentIndoor, outdoor, washdown, freezer or hazardous location
Power at the liftVoltage and phase at the unit’s location, not just somewhere in the building. Air units: PSI and CFM
Pit or no pitDecides recessed vs. top-of-ground on dock lifts and low-profile tables

Do not have all of it? Send what you have. A photo of the area and a description of what you are moving is a fine starting point, and we will ask the rest.

Common Questions

Is B&C Industrial an authorized Advance Lifts distributor?

Yes. Advance Lifts reaches end users through a nationwide network of distributors, and B&C Industrial Products is part of that network. We quote, sell, deliver and support the full Advance Lifts line nationwide, and every quote includes LTL freight or local delivery.

Where are Advance Lifts products made?

In St. Charles, Illinois. Advance Lifts, Inc. has built lifts there since 1974, with sales, design and manufacturing in one 120,000 square foot building and an in-house UL-listed panel shop. The company is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

What is the difference between a dock lift and a dock leveler?

A dock leveler bridges a few inches between an existing raised dock and a trailer bed. A dock lift travels the full height from ground level up to trailer bed height, so it works at a building with no dock at all, or one that receives trucks of very different heights. If you have a dock and the trailers are close to right, you want a leveler. If you have no dock, you want a lift.

Do I need a pit for an Advance Lifts dock lift?

Not necessarily. Recessed models (the T, 2000, 3000 and 4000 Series) install in a pit so the platform sits flush with the floor, which lets pallet jacks roll straight on. Top-of-ground models, the 1000 and 6000 Series, mount on the surface with an approach ramp and need no pit. Pit units cost more to install but are cleaner to operate; surface units go in fast.

How much does an Advance Lifts dock lift cost?

Too many variables to publish a number honestly. Capacity, platform size, pit versus top of ground, voltage, and options like hinged bridges and safety skirting all move the price, and installation depends on your site. Send us your capacity, travel and platform size and we will quote it, with freight or local delivery included.

What capacity scissor lift table do I need?

Start with the heaviest single load, then look at how the load arrives. If a fork truck drives onto the platform, its weight counts too. Advance Lifts scissor lift tables run from about 1,000 lbs on the air spring AT Series up to 60,000 lbs on the Jumbo JDL Series, so capacity is rarely the constraint. Travel height and platform size usually are.

What is a high-cycle lift table and do I need one?

If your table lifts once per pallet, a standard P Series is right. If it lifts once per part, you are running a high-cycle application and a standard table will wear out years early. The HC Series carries a 10-year, 1,000,000-cycle warranty and the UHC Series 10 years and 3,000,000 cycles. Count your lifts per hour, multiply by hours per year, and if you cross a few hundred thousand cycles over the machine’s expected life, spec the high-cycle version.

What is the difference between a tilter and an upender?

A tilter angles a container toward the operator so they can reach into it without bending over the edge, typically 30 to 87 degrees depending on the series. An upender rotates a load a full 90 degrees to change its orientation entirely, standing a coil or panel up from flat or laying it back down. If you are reaching into a bin, you want a tilter. If you are changing which face is up, you want an upender.

What is a vertical reciprocating conveyor (VRC)?

A VRC moves material, not people, between building levels. Because no one rides it, it is not treated as an elevator, which makes it much less expensive to buy and install than a code-rated freight elevator. Advance Lifts builds hydraulic and mechanical VRCs from 1,000 to 6,000 lbs and up to 22 feet, in cantilever and straddle configurations, to ASME B20.1.

Can Advance Lifts build a custom size?

Yes. Beyond the standard series, platform sizes, travel, capacity and controls can be engineered to the application, including options like tight position control, synchronized multi-lift setups and special finishes. Work access platform lifts are almost always built to the job. Send us the constraint you cannot design around and we will find out what is possible.

What safety standard do Advance Lifts work access platforms meet?

For work access platform lifts, Advance Lifts builds to ANSI MH29.1, which calls for a 3 to 1 safety factor, and offers gate interlocks that stop the lift unless guardrails and gates are in place. If your project has a specific code requirement written into the spec, tell us up front and we will confirm it in writing with the manufacturer before you order.

Can B&C get Advance Lifts parts and service?

Yes. We handle parts, warranty claims and service coordination on everything we sell. Warranty work needs prior authorization from Advance Lifts, so call us before scheduling any repair on a unit still in its warranty period and we will open the claim for you.
